Revised Medical Staff Bylaws

All medical staff members were recently emailed a copy of the Medical Staff Bylaws highlighting revisions provisionally approved by the Board of Trustees on January 6, 2011. If you have not received this email or would prefer a copy of the document on disk or paper, please contact the Medical Staff Services Office. The medical staff has 20 days to review the revised document before it is processed through committee for final approval. The majority of revisions have been made to conform to the HCA Model Bylaws and to meet new requirements mandated by the State, Joint Commission and other regulatory institutions. The major changes are bulleted below:

• Provision for a Practitioner Health Committee which will function as needed in order to support unique requirements of SRMC Medical Staff that may include but not be limited to support for physicians with health issues, counseling support and other measures that may be needed to return the physician back to full and independent practice. Practitioners are invited to contact the committee chair, William Enos, MD, to solicit support if needed.

• Provision for an Advanced Practice Professionals Committee which will evaluate and make recommendation regarding the need for APP services within the facility as well as develop and recommend policies to cover APP practice. The committee will also review qualifications of APP applicants in order to make recommendation to the board and provide ongoing quality of care oversight.

• Renaming of the Nominating Committee to the Medical Staff Leadership Development and Nominating Committee. This Committee will now be responsible for defining leadership characteristics, identifying and recruiting future potential medical staff leaders and advising the CEO and MEC of the education and development needs of potential medical staff leaders.

• Expanded section on conflict management resolution which provides definition to the approved process for resolving conflict between the medical staff and the Medical Executive Committee.
