The History of Doctor’s Day

The first Doctors Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. This first observance included the of mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors. The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day. Medical Staff Committee Information

Cancer Committee:  SRMC’s Cancer Committee has now been established and began presenting Tumor Boards in January.  Sudeep Menachery, MD (Hematology/Oncology) has been appointed as chairperson and SRMC is currently pursuing approval from UVA to provide category 1 CME credit for attendees.  Tumor Boards are held every 4th Monday at 12:30pm in Classrooms A&B, adjacent to the Administration suite.
