Documentation Tip: Sepsis Syndrome

DocumentPlease remember that per coding guidelines, the term “SEPSIS SYNDROME” is not adequate to code SEPSIS. Please refrain from using this phrase when referring to the subset of symptoms generally associated with SEPSIS. When this phrase is seen in documentation, the CDS or Coder will be required to submit a query to the physician to clarify the diagnosis. Joint Venture with VCU Massey Cancer Center

spotsy-cancer7-11-12-smaller_You may have seen the fence, construction workers or just the gaping hole on one side of the Pogonia Medical Arts Building and wondered what we were up to. Among several projects, including the completion of a new timeshare suite on the third floor, this is the initial phase of our cancer center construction project. Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center has agreed to joint venture the radiation oncology portion of our cancer center with VCU Massey Cancer Center. What does this look like for the hospital and why did we take this step? The radiation therapy center will be a department of the hospital, with staff from VCU Massey including radiation oncology, dosimetry and medical physics.
