Spotsylvania Regional Cancer Center and VCU Massey Partner to Provide Radiation Therapy

_DSC4646The radiation oncology department at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is  a joint venture between Hospital Corporations of America(HCA)  and the VCU Massey Cancer Center.  The staff of the department is composed of a physician and physics staff, who are faculty members of VCU-Massey, and administrative,  nursing, therapy and secretarial staff, who are employed by HCA. Both  institutions are known for their commitment to high quality medical care.  VCU-Massey is the area’s only NCI designated cancer center. The interaction of the staff is seamless. Patients are treated with compassion and respect.

The center provides the latest in modern technology, including a True Beam linear accelerator, a High Dose Rate afterloader, Rapid-Arc teletherapy  and Stereotactic radiotherapy. The facility is new, having opened in July 2013, but the staff has extensive experience in all modes of radiotherapy. This is the first center in the area to offer Prone Breast radiotherapy treatments, which can be of significant cosmetic benefit to selected patients. All treatments are peer reviewed in a teleconference before a multimodality committee.  This means that several physicians will review each case and may make suggestions or provide alternative treatment techniques in an effort to provide the best outcome for each patient.  Likewise, all treatment plans are extensively reviewed by the VCU-Massey physics staff. This assures the highest standards for each patient. The Department of Radiation Oncology at Spotsylvania Regional Cancer Center provides state of the art radiation services for the Spotsylvania/ Fredericksburg community.
