MedicareHCA has revised the Medicare Order Form based on feedback received from physicians and others.  While hospitals and physicians have done an excellent job with the current form, the new version has been streamlined to facilitate its understanding and completion.

Please replace the current Medicare Order Form with the versions below dated 02/05/14 no later than March 1.  An instructional guide is also attached and will provide tips on how to complete the Medicare Order Form.

SRMC Achieves New Status as Accredited Chest Pain Center

Logo_SCPC_CPC_Accredited_RGBSpotsylvania Regional Medical Center (SRMC) announces it has received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC).  As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Spotsylvania Regional ensures that patients who arrive at the hospital complaining of chest pain or other symptoms of a heart attack receive the treatment necessary during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved.

“People tend to wait when they think they might be having a heart attack, and that’s a mistake,” states Greg Madsen, CEO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.  “The average patient arrives in the emergency department more than two hours after the onset of symptoms, but what they don’t realize is that the sooner a heart attack is treated, the less damage to the heart and the better the outcome for the patient.” Continue reading ‘SRMC Achieves New Status as Accredited Chest Pain Center’

Meaningful Use Stage 2: Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE)

doctor computer With Stage 1 of Meaningful Use complete, it is now time to move into Stage 2.  Stage 1 required use of CPOE for more than 30% of medication orders.  Stage 2 requires that more than 60% of medication orders, more than 30% of laboratory orders, and more than 30% of radiology orders created by eligible professionals or authorized providers of the hospital’s inpatient or ED department during the EHR reporting period be recorded using CPOE.  This means that you or a licensed staff person will have to use the EHR’s CPOE module to enter these labs.  CMS clarified that a licensed health care professional includes licensed nurses and credentialed medical assistants.

Behavioral Health Unit Expansion in 2014

growthOn January 21, 2014, Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center was approved to add 18 psychiatric beds to our current 10 bed Behavioral Health unit. This expansion will increase our unit size from 10 to 28 beds and increase our hospital’s total licensed beds to 133. The new unit will provide 20 general adult psychiatric beds as well as 8 medical psych beds. We have started the design phase of the project and construction is projected to begin in early July of 2014.  The project, once completed near the end of 2014, will allow Spotsylvania Regional  to accommodate the 70 patients we deflect per month due to current capacity restraints.
