Emergency Services Fast Track

Over the past months, SRMC’s emergency department has seen an increasing number of patients from the community. The influx has been composed of both high and low acuity patients and it was soon realized that to serve our patients more efficiently, a solution needed to be developed that would accommodate various process flows. After observing ED flow, we realized that beds were being utilized by low acuity patients, leaving higher acuity patients in the waiting room. In order to reduce the time it takes for a patient to see a provider, a fast track process was developed, focusing on low acuity patients by getting them in and out as quickly as possible, freeing beds for those patients who need them most.
